At Rite Smile Dental, our goal is to help you keep all of your teeth. We want your mouth to be healthy and your smile to be vibrant. To that end, we emphasize the importance of brushing, flossing, as well as getting regular cleanings and exams.
However, there are times when the best possible solution is simply to remove the tooth. In fact, tooth extractions are a fairly common procedure and can be necessary to alleviate pain or other issues.
Do I need to have a tooth extracted?
Here is a list of the most common issues that may require an extraction:
Impacted Wisdom Teeth | Depending on your situation, we can pull your wisdom teeth if they have impacted below the surface. Impacted wisdom teeth are simply teeth that cannot push through normally because they are blocked by surrounding teeth. We need to pull these impacted wisdom teeth in order to prevent damage to the nearby teeth.
Injury or Disease | If we can’t save your tooth through a root canal or a crown, it’s better to remove the tooth and then replace it with a dental implant.
Crowded Teeth | If your teeth are so crowded that they can’t be properly supported by your jaws, you’ll tend to have further issues. Once we remove a couple of teeth, the rest of the teeth can come into better alignment.
Baby Teeth | Some baby teeth persist into adulthood. This prevents the adult teeth from pushing through. We remove these baby teeth and then the adult teeth can finally emerge.
